Olympic flame snuffed out in Paris

Anti-China protesters have wreaked havoc on the Olympic torch relay in Paris, causing the flame to be extinguished at least twice on Monday.

Chinese officials were forced to extinguish the flame at least twice and seek refuge in a bus as hundreds of activists blocked the relay, hurled water at the flame and tried to seize the torch.

Officials cut short the relay and put the torch on a bus to be driven to the final stage in southern Paris where a French athlete set alight a cauldron accompanied by a fireworks display.

  1. Are politics and sports inextricably linked? Is this the greatest possible platform to air a message or a horrendous disfigurement of what the Olympics stand for?
    It’s a good question.
